How do you discipline a young toddler?

Happy Tuesday Everyone!  I don’t know about you, but I am enjoying the weather.  It is starting to feel like fall.  I don’t love the time change, but the weather is great.

If you have a 16 to 24 month old you will probably relate to this.  Now that Nicholas is 16.5 months he definitely has an opinion.  He isn’t at the point yet of saying No; however, he does understand that he does not like it when he doesn’t get his way.  He is also pushing back when we ask him not to touch different objects throughout the house.  He gives you a look and then goes right in to touch the object.  My husband and I were talking about the need for us to be on the same page, but that he is still so young.  What do you do?

A couple simple rules we try to follow is consistency.  If we say we are going to take something away we follow through.  If we come in from playing outside and he throws a fit we just let him figure it out.  We don’t let him go back outside.  And back to the no touch rule…so far our policy has been to remove him from the situation or distract him with a toy or another activity.  It is still hard to tell if this is working because he is so young, but for now we are going to stick to it.  We ran across this article online that gives a good overview of behavior around the 18 month mark so thought I would share.

Here is to a new adventure of life with a toddler.
